KUCHING: Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, welcomed a delegation from Inns of Court Malaysia (ICM) during a courtesy call at Astana Negeri Sarawak on Saturday.
The delegation, led by ICM President, Tun Arifin Zakaria, engaged in discussions centred around expanding the organisation’s activities to East Malaysia, including Sarawak and Sabah.
Speaking to reporters, Tun Arifin highlighted that the expansion of ICM’s initiatives beyond Peninsular Malaysia was made possible through a generous financial contribution from Deputy Prime Minister, Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, last year.
“Dato Sri Fadillah’s support was instrumental in enabling us to extend ICM’s activities, such as seminars and the exchange of legal ideas, to East Malaysia. These initiatives are designed to enhance legal knowledge and are open to all qualified legal professionals, including those in legal services, in-house counsel, retired lawyers, judges, and even retired judges,” Tun Arifin explained.
He further elaborated that ICM provides a unique platform that brings together judges, lawyers, and members of academia, fostering a rich exchange of ideas and promoting stronger camaraderie within the legal community.
In response, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi expressed his enthusiasm and full support for the initiative, noting his personal connection with the Inns of Court and recognising the importance of expanding ICM’s reach to Sarawak.
ICM’s efforts, guided by the motto ‘Home for the whole spectrum of law professionals,’ aim to unify legal practitioners across Malaysia, bridging regional differences and fostering collaboration within the legal fraternity.
The courtesy visit underscores ICM’s commitment to broadening its impact, ensuring that East Malaysia benefits from the same legal advancements and knowledge-sharing initiatives as Peninsular Malaysia. – UKASnews
