In a historic moment marked by camaraderie and commitment to excellence, the Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (MAICSA) and the Inns of Court Malaysia (ICM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the grand dinner celebrating 8 years of Inns of Court Malaysia’s stellar contribution to the legal profession. The momentous occasion was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Minister of Youth and Sports of Malaysia YB Hannah Yeoh, Chief Justice of Malaysia Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat, Chief Justice of the Dubai International Financial Centre Courts and Advisor of Inns of Court Malaysia Tun Zaki Tun Azmi, Deputy President of Inns of Court Malaysia Dato’ Mary Lim Thiam Suan, and a multitude of other esteemed guests.
During the event, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof delivered a keynote address focusing on “Strengthening Unity” within the legal profession. He underscored the critical importance of unity in upholding the rule of law and ensuring equal access to justice for all Malaysians. Echoing the Deputy Prime Minister’s impassioned plea for unity, MAICSA and Inns of Court Malaysia have joined forces in a collective effort to propel governance excellence ecosystem. Under their visionary leadership, the signing of the MoU represents a strategic alliance aimed at propelling the governance profession forward. The President of MAICSA, Simon Yeoh, said, “In alignment with the Deputy Prime Minister’s sentiments, the collaboration between MAICSA and Inns of Court Malaysia signifies a shared commitment to collaboration and synergy. This MoU stands as a testament to our shared commitment to cultivate a robust governance ecosystem.”
The Treasurer of ICM, Ooi Suan Kim, said “Inns of Court Malaysia is ‘A home for the whole spectrum of law professionals.’ ICM prioritises legal, educational, professional and governance excellence. Some of the main objectives of ICM includes upgrading of members’ skills, enhancing knowledge and increasing professional opportunities. In line with the Deputy Prime Minister’s powerful message in strengthening unity, the spirit of the MOU underscores the collaborative united effort for governance excellence, seamless flow of governance information and sharing of high-level best practices in achieving highest standards in governance excellence.”
In addition, the Chief Executive Officer of MAICSA Justin J Anthony, said “Through initiatives such as providing MAICSA’s Chartered Governance Professional designation to ICM members and fostering university partnerships to promote student memberships, we are strategically positioned to influence standards and drive innovation.
